Hunterville Bike Ride

Organised by Hunterville Lions Club

There are races and Rides to suit all levels, from the competitive cyclist to the family ride.

The Cycle Classic consists of a 100km and 50km ride that commences in rural Hunterville, a service town on State Highway One in central Rangitikei.

THE 100KM CYCLE CLASSIC

The 100km ride starts on Rangatira Road next to the Fire Station and immediately climbs up the Rangatira hill where you have views from Mt Taranaki, the Ruahine Ranges and down to Kapiti, you then drop down the other side and come out at Rata then bike along SH1 and turn in at Porewa and follow the river until with 2 short climbs you again come out on SH1 for a short ride down to the Kakariki turn off and back down and over the Rangitikei River and into the Manawatu.
From here you turn left into Pryces Line which follows the river and when you reach the end of Pryce’s line you have travelled 48km, turn right and climb up onto Makino Road and head along before turning left into MacKays Line and head for the Cheltenham Crossroads and SH54.
Once through Waituna West you climb to the summit of Stormy Point with magnificent views of the Rangitikei Valley and the mountains towards Taupo and then one of the rides highlights, dropping 800 feet in 4km to Rewa.
Then its along the river terraces across the river and back into the Rangitikei and a climb back to SH1 and on into Hunterville and the finish close to the start

TURAKINA VALLEY 50km

Starting at the School and head west down Chubbins Hill and on to the first meeting with the Turakina River at Puketoi Junction, from here on the river is always with you, spectacular country right out to the Pohonui bridge where you turn and head back to town.
This ride is probably the toughest 50km ride around, not over the top but a great work out for lungs and legs and a great sense of achievement when you arrive back in Hunterville.

17Km FUN RIDE

The 17km ride starts at the school and follows the 43km ride out before you turn onto Aldworth Road and ride out to nearly the junction with State Highway One where you turn and head back into town and finish just on the outskirts.
A nice easy ride with gentle climbs .
